Beginners to Intermediate: Series of 4 workshops
Ages 14+

Janet Leith will guide you through the art of drawing the human figure, an important ‘building block’ in developing drawing skills. Using a variety of art materials, you will be able to hone your skills and learn the basics of drawing the nude figure. The last workshop will focus on exploring ‘mixed media’ techniques.

Janet is passionate about sharing a wide range of techniques and mediums, all focusing on the development of individual styles and ideas.

Cost: $25 or $20 Gallery members (per workshop)
Three or more sessions: $10 discount off full price

MUSIC CONCERT: Duo Chamber Melange

Duo Chamber Melange is an exciting partnership between internationally acclaimed musicians Ivana Tomaskova (violin) and Tamara Smolyar (piano). Both have produced numerous recordings for national and international broadcasters and performed in many prominent venues across three continents. The duo’s masterful performances are engaging and moving, covering classical and contemporary works and expressing the true art of music-making.

Beginners to Intermediate: Series of 2 workshops
Ages 14+

In these two workshops explore the process of mixing and layering colour using coloured pencils.  Week one involves exploration of pencil qualities, different papers and tools that enhance the drawing process.
In week two, experiment with the range of chromatic combinations that can be obtained from using just three primary colours. Implementing these techniques, objects will be drawn from life revealing surprising results.

SPRING SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM: Paper Flowers

Spring is here!  Create your very own bunch of flowers using paper, glue, scissors and special folding techniques. Inspired by Benalla’s Botanical Gardens you will be making wildflowers, native flowers, poppies, peonies, roses and sunflowers.  Take them home in a bunch to display in your own vase.

SPRING SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM: Wire and plaster sculpture

Renowned Swiss artist Alberto Giacometti (1901 – 1966) is the inspiration for this special sculpture workshop. His impossibly tall, elongated figures are often shown walking and appear almost weightless.

In this workshop you will make people and animals from wire and plaster – perhaps in the style of Giacometti! We will show you how to construct a sculpture to create something really special to take home.

Note: Wear suitable clothing that can withstand a messy activity! Otherwise, large T-shirts are available to wear over clothing.

Little Artists - Art activities for preschoolers

Benalla Art Gallery’s ‘Little Artists’ program is developed specifically for pre-school children.
We use games, storytelling and creative activities to encourage young children, along with their parents and carers, to have fun while learning about art. 
Sessions are free and are scheduled for the first Wednesday of each month from February to December.

SPRING SCHOOL HOLIDAY WORKSHOP: Garden Sculpture

Using air dry clay and wire you will create your very own fantasy ‘creatures’ – fairies, dragons, pixies and goblins.  Learn hand-building and sculpting techniques using clay tools and your imagination.  These fascinating creations can be decorated with acrylic paint (plus a clear sealant if placing outdoors) when fully dry.  A fun introduction to 3-D art!

Beginners to Advanced: Series of 2 workshops
Ages 14+

Jennifer Paull is an artist from north-east Victoria who is well-known for her portraits, figure studies and landscapes in pastels. 

The first workshop is an introduction to the use of soft pastels.
Explore different application techniques, colour theory, the appropriate selection of paper and suggestions on how to choose subject matter to produce simple landscapes.

Week two focuses on portraiture using pastels with an emphasis on facial proportions and correct dimension to create a likeness.

All subject matter will be provided for both classes.
