Benalla Art Gallery’s Little Artists program is developed specifically for pre-school aged children. We use games, story-telling and creative activities to learn about art.

We will walk through Mike Nicholls exhibition, A Bird in the Hand and talk about what we see – the different patterns and shapes, types of birds and what they are doing. Can you spot an egg? Little Artists will then design and create a unique bird and its nest using a range of materials. Children will explore texture, colour and shape, whilst developing creative and fine motor skills to assemble their nest. This age-appropriate activity is designed to encourage imagination and exploration in a social environment.

Materials: Paper plates, felt pens, cut outs, bird templates, animal templates, stamps, shredded paper.
Mat Time: Inspired by some of the birds and their different homes, we will read Sticks and Stones animal homes by Tai Snaith.

Benalla Art Gallery’s Little Artists program is developed specifically for pre-school children. We use games, story-telling and creative activities to encourage young children, and their parents and carers, to have fun while learning about art.
