Friday 2 August, 10—10.45AM

In this Little Artists session we will immerse ourselves in Mimi Leung’s colourful and vibrant exhibition in the Simpson Gallery, Growing up with you. There is much to see and do in this highly interacting exhibition and play space!

Little Artists will have the opportunity to ‘make their mark’ by colouring in the community drawing wall using posca pens whilst enjoying the video and projection display featured in the exhibition.

We will dream up our own cartoon characters and talk about what they like, what they do and what makes them happy, and bring them to life on paper using mixed media.

Materials: paper, posca pens, collage, glue, pencils, crayons.

Definitions and Learnings: This activity encourages the development of fine motor skills through drawing, allowing children to learn about colour, lines, drawing and character creation. Children will also identify different types of art such as drawing, painting, projection and video art.

This exhibition explores themes of family and encourages parents and guardians to play and make art with their children. Leung explains, “about inviting my children into my work and allowing collaboration between us through art (as in life). Children (and adults!) are invited to colour and doodle, complete patterns etc. on this work, to collaborate on an artwork that grows unpredictably throughout the exhibition, but which is anchored by a central image.”

Ages: For pre-school aged children and their parents/carers
Cost: FREE
Registration essential: T 03 5760 2619 or gallery@benalla.vic.gov.au

Benalla Art Gallery’s Little Artists program is developed specifically for pre-school children. We use games, story-telling and creative activities to encourage young children, and their parents and carers, to have fun while learning about art.
