Saturday 4 March 1PM–3PM

Naarm (Melbourne) based artist Zoë Bastin will facilitate a 2-hour movement workshop in the Simpson Gallery in response to Daniel O’Toole’s current exhibition ‘Voices from the Void’. This installation makes the gallery space an instrument that our moving bodies can play. Using Daniels interactive sound installation, participants will play with the body in relation to movement, space and sound to explore the dynamics of performance and improvisation. There will be opportunities for guided movement, self-exploration and conversation.

Zoë’s a firm believer that everyBODY can dance! So all experience levels and abilities are welcome to join.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Zoë Bastin is an artist. Her expanded choreographic practice considers exhibition, installation, publication and performance as part of the same political project – the reorganisation of societal structures that limit bodies. Zoë studied, then later taught, at Mangala Studios of Creative Dance and Yoga in Carlton, an important site in the lineage of Australian German Expressionist Dance (est.1970). In recent years her research has become increasingly interested in the complexity of practices, ideologies, and aesthetic modes of making within Australian legacies of dance and their intersection with visual art.
