Fleur Rendell presents a selection of recently made linocut prints that invite viewers to see the everyday world in a new light. The works celebrate the seemingly small moments and observations of daily life, offering vivid and joyful insights into our relationships with objects around us. They are reminders to pause and savour the beauty in the seemingly ordinary.
Artist, Fleur Rendell (nee Randell), is born and bred in North East Victoria, having grown up on a farm west of Benalla with her parents, sister and brother, all attending Benalla High School. She went on to study Fine Arts (ceramics and printmaking) at RMIT then completed a traineeship with a master printer at Australian Print Workshop, before qualifying as a teacher at Melbourne University. Fleur taught for ten years, before leaving to start a family, which is when she found the time and energy to properly develop her art practice, which soon took on a life of its own.
Over the past fifteen years Fleur’s printmaking has explored different avenues but a recurring theme has been her surrounds and what touches her heart; nature, home, family and objects that are imbued with memories. All prints are made by Fleur in her studio using a vintage 1854 Albion Press.
Fleur has featured in over 60 group and solo exhibitions in Australia since 1992, and her work is held in the collections of the Australian Print Workshop, National Gallery of Australia, University of Melbourne, and Wangaratta Art Gallery, as well as private collections. Fleur has received numerous accolades for her work including Best Work by a Local Artist in the 2019 King Valley Art Show, King Valley VIC; First Place in the 2008 Jazz Art Award, Wangaratta Art Gallery VIC; and Best Native Work, acquired in the 2008 King Valley Art Show, King Valley VIC.
