Whether it’s a frock coat, couture or glam, come along for a free recital by the Benalla Classical Guitar Ensemble, followed by Hannah Gartside, who is currently featured in the Gallery’s latest exhibition, New Exuberance: contemporary Australian textile design.

About Benalla Classical Guitar Ensemble

Founded in 2010, the Benalla Classical Guitar Ensemble is a social group who share a love of the classical guitar. Within a friendly atmosphere, the group meets once a week to play a selection of classical, folk, and popular pieces from around the world. The Ensemble has performed concerts at multicultural festivals, art exhibitions and community events since its foundation. Currently made up of the five members, the ensemble invites you to come and enjoy an evening of delightful guitar music.

About Hannah Gartside

Hannah Gartside works across sculpture, installation and video. Characteristically sensual and poetic, her works transform found fabrics and clothing to articulate experiences and sensations of longing, tenderness, care and desire.

Recent exhibitions include Making Art Work, Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane, QLD (2020); Fun Room, Wangaratta Art Gallery, Wangaratta, VIC (2020); Fantasies, Ararat Gallery TAMA, Ararat, VIC (2019);Performing Textiles, Ian Potter Museum, Melbourne, VIC (2019); Four Letter Word, Artbank, Sydney, NSW (2019) and Beyond Reason, QUT Art Museum, Brisbane, QLD (2018). Gartside has undertaken residencies at Australian Tapestry Workshop, Melbourne (2020) and in California at the Varda Artist Residency (2017). Gartside received a Bachelor of Fine Art (Sculpture) from University of Melbourne, Victorian College of the Arts, in 2016, and a BFA (Fashion Design) from Queensland University of Technology in 2007. Prior to her visual art training, Gartside worked as costume-maker for five years, mainly on productions for Queensland Ballet.

Hannah Gartside will explore her practice with a focus on the use of worn textiles and craft processes.
