James Stojko’s paintings draw inspiration from the Australian landscape, particularly the striking scenery of North East Victoria, as well as from his travels further afield.

James’s passion for art began early, and he started painting regularly in acrylics at the age of 21. In 2014, he began focusing on landscapes, developing an Impressionistic style that continues to define his work today. Transitioning from acrylics to oils, James adopted traditional techniques, particularly alla prima — a method of applying layers of wet paint in a single session. He often paints en plein air, later refining these studies into larger studio works.

Since opening his private studio in 2020, James has dedicated himself to painting full-time, continuing to explore and express the beauty and diversity of the Australian landscape through his vibrant and atmospheric works. His professional painting journey deepened in 2021 under the mentorship of artist Kasey Sealy, travelling to locations such as Cobar, Yowah, Lightning Ridge, and Bourke. In 2022, he continued this practice with Kasey in Mansfield, creating a number of his early en plein air studies.
