The Allure of Gold: All That Glitters explores how value is constructed and perceived in contemporary society. Through this series, Ling reflects on materialism, and the fleeting nature of status. Gold no longer functions as a sign of prosperity, but as a question. By collapsing the distance between trash and treasure, the work invites viewers to reconsider what they consider precious – and to ask whether value lies in the object itself, or in the meanings we project onto it.

About the artist:

Ling is a Melbourne-based artist, founding member of The Safehouse Studio, and currently working from the renowned Everfresh Studio. He has been adding colour and vibrancy to his environment since 2000. Ling continues to develop his studio practice, increasingly exploring alternative creative avenues. From his ongoing conceptual series The Allure of Gold through to sculptural installations that utilise industrial processes, this willingness to try new things and explore the unknown ensures there is always something new on the horizon
