Following the previous evening’s live mural painting performance, SURFACE, gain greater insight into the practice of visiting artist Zoe Porter.

A Brisbane based interdisciplinary artist exploring primarily a drawing practice, Porter’s practice extends into painting, installation, performance, sculpture, site-specific works and video. Porter has a Doctorate in Visual Art (QCA) and has exhibited regularly in Australia and overseas.

Her work frequently depicts the animal-human hybrid in an attempt at crossing the boundaries between the animal and the human, real and imaginary states, chaos and order. Much of her work explores a personal mythology that presents the human form undergoing transformation, which suggests the possibilities for other ways of being or existing. Her performance-based works are often collaborative and merge art, theatre, sound and physical performance highlighting the artistic and creative processes involved in producing artworks.

Porter has undertaken a number of international residencies including Burgundy, France (2006), Geidai University, Tokyo (2010) and Crane Arts, Philadelphia (US) (2012). She has exhibited in a number of group exhibitions and most recently held solo exhibitions in Melbourne (2015) and Brisbane (2016) as well as receiving funding through Australia Council for the Arts (2014).
