Monday 4 May – Friday 31 July 2026

The Art Cases program is a core part of the National Gallery of Australia Touring Exhibitions program. The program comprises five art-filled cases that travel to schools, libraries, community centres, galleries and aged care homes, where the works are discovered and handled by adults and children of all ages for both exhibition and hands-on programs such as art making and storytelling.

Following a successful delivery of the Body (Red) and Form and Function (Orange) cases from February – May this year which reached 600+ participants, we are excited to welcome two new cases available for viewing until July 2026. The ‘Past, Present and Future’ Art Case brings together works that reflect on or are invested with the passing of time. These forms could be time itself, the human experience of history, or the influence of events in determining the possible future. The ‘Earth’ Art Case brings together artists who reflect on the importance of the natural world and our place within it. From time immemorial, the natural world has been a source of inspiration for artists to articulate the different yet profound ways cultures connect and respond to the environment.

For schools, this is an opportunity to support object-based learning, providing a rich scope for critical and creative thinking, investigating Visual Arts, Design and Technologies, the Humanities and Social Sciences, Health and Physical Education and Science (Biology), and the cross-curriculum priority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures. It is also an opportunity to foster connection and wellbeing within our community spaces through experiencing and ‘feeling’ art.

Gallery staff are able to facilitate a session whereby participants handle each of the artworks, learn about the artist and creator; and engage in learning activities developed by the National Gallery. These sessions are free.

Sessions are available as incursions or can also be delivered at the new Pop-Up Benalla Art Gallery at 75 Bridge Street East, giving the community the opportunity to also view the current exhibitions on display.

To enquire about a booking and to find a suitable session, please email gallery@benalla.vic.gov.au or phone the gallery on 03 5760 2619.
