Zaza & Douglas presents an exhibition of ceramics, mixed media and intuitive abstract painting inspired by the flora of regional Victoria in the Gallery Shop throughout October.
Based in the picturesque Yea Valley of north-east Victoria, Zaza & Douglas draws inspiration from the region’s vibrant landscapes and botanical diversity. Her practice celebrates the quiet poetry of nature, translating the forms, textures and rhythms of botanical life and landscape into distinctive works that bring together ceramics, textiles and paint.
Wild Blooms invites viewers to notice the beauty, resilience, and continual change held within the natural world. Flowers appear not simply as decoration, but as symbols of growth, renewal, joy, memory, and the fleeting nature of life.
The exhibition brings together floral paintings and individually handcrafted ceramic works as companion forms. Through expressive brushwork, layered colour, and soft washes, the paintings capture the movement and passing energy of a garden. Each work holds a moment of bloom: a feeling, a memory, or a brief encounter with beauty.
The ceramic works extend these ideas into three dimensions. Sculptural flowers, tactile pendants, and bespoke objects are made to be held, worn, and lived with. Individually shaped, glazed, and finished by hand, their surfaces preserve the gentle marks of making, transforming a passing botanical moment into something lasting and personal.
Works for sale in the Gallery Shop are available for purchase from Benalla Art Gallery, or by contacting the Gallery: T 03 5760 2619 or gallery@benalla.vic.gov.au
