Sofles: Compendium is a survey of two decades of work from one of the most watched contemporary street artists of his generation.
From initial blackbook sketches to fully realised artworks, tags to trains to sponsored commissions, the exhibition showcases the life and art of Brisbane artist, Sofles.
The internationally acclaimed artist has been experimenting with graffiti writing since the turn of the century. Cutting his teeth in the streets of Brisbane, Sofles entered the scene a mysterious wildcard. His innate aerosol talent saw him quickly rise to prominence covering the city’s train tracks, warehouses and hidden nooks and crannies with his distinct work.
His contributions to various sold-out exhibitions and collaborations with notable artists such as Askew, Nychos, Smug, and more have cemented him as an essential and leading member among the wider street art and graffiti communities.
Now, the enigmatic mind and hand behind the can—Russell Fenn—invites you to step into his eclectic world of disruptive art.
Sofles: Compendium features never before exhibited photographs; original drawings; video art; breathtaking murals which illustrate his personal street art story and evidence his ability to conquer numerous styles; canvas pieces which allow you to see the artist at work through augmented reality; and a new sculptural installation.
In an all-encompassing celebration of his practice, Sofles: Compendium touches on past milestones including the career-defining viral video Limitless and the multidisciplinary White Night Melbourne commission, Graffiti Mapped.
Peer into Sofles’ process, self-developed technique, and the unmatched technical ability that propelled him from the Brisbane underground to the world.
