Did you know the Benalla Art Gallery has a fantastic collection, some of which can be viewed online? The area surrounding Benalla is often referred to as ‘Kelly Country,’ with many stories of Ned Kelly featured in our townships. This Little Artists’ activity is inspired by this history and the many Sidney Nolan, Ned Kelly artworks featured in the Benalla Art Gallery Collection. In this session, Little Artists will make their own Ned Kelly mask, and adorn it with gems, coloured paper, fabric and ribbons – the more fantastic, the better!
Materials:
fabric, paper, glue, scissors, gems, ribbon, felt pens, crayons
Mat Time:
This week we will learn about The Benalla Art Gallery’s collection and some of the Sidney Nolan, Ned Kelly artworks. The Ned Kelly story is also referenced in Jacky Stockdale’s ‘The Outlaws’ Inn‘ exhibition which is on display in the Simpson Gallery from 28 October 2022.
Benalla Art Gallery’s Little Artists program is developed specifically for pre-school children. We use games, story-telling and creative activities to encourage young children, and their parents and carers, to have fun while learning about art.
Sessions are free and are scheduled for the first week of each month from February to December.
