Learn how to create a house portrait using your own reference image. Explore colour theory, composition, the interplay of light and shadow, textures of foliage, and the feature elements of your house or building. Using acrylics students will learn colour mixing, brush selection and techniques to create layers and texture. Brooke will guide you how to create shadows, reflections and finer details to add personal touches and make adjustments to make the portrait unique.
About the Artist:
Brooke Whelan has always been creative and has worked in various roles including a 15-year career in floral design before side stepping into education roles. Brooke has now come full circle to return to painting and art making.
She uses expressive brush strokes and saturated rich colours to depict light filtering through her subjects, capturing the sun and representing the colour of the day and season. Her artworks are nostalgic, haunting and romantic simultaneously, with colour used to convey a mood or feeling.
