Thursday 30 November, 3PM

Join us for an afternoon with artist David Frazer to coincide with his Gallery Shop exhibition Love and Yearning, on display throughout November.

David will discuss his artistic journey and the inspiration behind it. David explains that his art originated “from my desire to write songs, [and because of] my inability to do so, I discovered wood engraving, the closest printmaking medium to song; it’s history in illustrating text, it’s intimate size being so suited to poetry and song. The perfect medium for an artist like me interested in narrative.”

David’s artwork centres around themes of nostalgia, longing, and isolation, often choosing vast, secluded Australian rural landscapes and solitary people in his work.

David has exhibited nationally and internationally with over 40 solo exhibitions since 1996.  His work is represented throughout Australia and overseas including the National Gallery of Australia, the Art Gallery of NSW, the National Gallery of Victoria, the National Library of Australia, the National Museum of China, the Royal Academy of Art in London, and many regional galleries in Australia.

David has received numerous accolades for his work, with his most recent awards including Highly Commended in the Swan Hill National Print & Drawing Awards 2020, Swan Hill Gallery, VIC, Australian Commissioner & Special Prize Winner in the 2019 Ulsan International Woodcut Print Biennale, Korea, and the People’s Choice Award winner, 2018 Australian Print Triennial Print Award, The Art Vault, Mildura.
