EDUCATION: ART MAKING AND EXHIBITING
Benalla Art Gallery is a key learning resource for schools in Victoria’s North-East and is committed to providing curriculum relevant resources and meaningful artistic experiences to support teachers and students.
With a significant, onsite collection spanning three centuries of Australian art (19th century to the present day) the Benalla Art Gallery is a wonderous place for learning. In our three main galleries we present major exhibitions of contemporary art, as well as expansive collection exhibitions showcasing our relevant Australian art history and modern influences. Our curators provide expert knowledge on collection storage, curation, conservation and exhibition execution.
Through our diverse and dynamic program, we provide ‘lessons in looking’ that encourage students of all year levels to find, seek, think and wonder. Our programs provide a deeper understanding of the Gallery experience, function and purpose.
Our programs are focused on art making and exhibiting, where students build visual literacy and an understanding of materials, techniques and processes. They explore how artists use visual language to communicate ideas and meaning in artworks.
Education resources and associated activities are designed to support levels 7-10 Visual Arts and VCE Art Making and Exhibiting curriculum, whilst other activities can be provided to support other year levels and their learnings.
