Winter Concert featuring Solstice

Where: Ledger Gallery
Price: $27 members / $30 non-members

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre in association with Benalla Art Gallery

Continuing a proud history of music concerts at the Gallery, Benalla Art Gallery is partnering with Melbourne Recital Centre to present a wonderful series of seasonal performances in 2020. Each concert has been selected to resonate with the Gallery’s program of exhibitions.

Benalla Art Gallery’s Winter Concert features Solstice. Just as the Gallery’s Bennett Gallery exhibition, FEM-aFFINITY, brings together female artists from Arts Project Australia and wider Victoria whose work shares an affinity of subject and process, Solstice were drawn together by a shared ambition to break the piano trio out of its classical music traditions and a desire to promote the compositional works of Australian women.

About Solstice

Solstice is a contemporary piano trio based in Melbourne. The trio formed in 2015, drawn together by a mutual desire to break the piano trio out of its classical music traditions with new repertoire, new performance venues and new audiences. The trio has spent the last four years engaging in genre-crossing collaborations, curating performances which extend the concert experience beyond usual expectations, allowing space for moments of social connection and the sharing of ideas. Solstice has performed around the country at festivals such as Dots and Loops in Brisbane, at NEAL (The New Experimental Arts Laboratory) in Geelong, Bennetts Lane Jazz Club, Tempo Rubato, The Jazzlab and the Albury Winter Solstice, and has toured throughout regional Victoria. Solstice is particularly passionate about promoting works composed by Australian women, and in the past four years has commissioned and recorded pieces by Andrea Keller, Xani Kolac, Nat Grant, Nat Bartsch, Louisa Trewartha and Stephanie Arnold.
