Gallery Shop
Benalla Art Gallery presents Petals, Pots and Plumage in the Gallery Shop throughout September. The exhibition showcases a range of original collage artworks by Felicite Grogan, a Wodonga-based artist who is inspired by nature; everything from her backyard pot plants to the landscapes surrounding the Albury-Wodonga region. She is a local educator who enjoys sharing her passion for art with people of all ages.
Felicite uses mixed media to create her artworks, endeavouring to find the right medium and tool to produce the effect she’s aiming for. When working in collage, she hand-paints papers in watercolour and acrylic, creating a variety of textures. She then hand-cuts the shapes required and assembles them to achieve the final composition, using ink and pencil to add detail to the work.
Felicite Grogan explains, “‘At first glance, my collage artworks are often mistaken for digital art or watercolour paintings. When people look closely and see the fine layers of paper which make up the final image, the look on their face is priceless. The Benalla Gallery Shop Exhibition Program is a wonderful initiative and a fantastic opportunity for me to share my art with a new audience.”
Felicite has featured in a number of exhibitions, including St Augustine’s Art Show (2022) where she was awarded the Principal’s Commendation; the Man From Snowy River Art Show (2021) where she was presented with the Encouragement Award. She has also been recognised with a Third Prize (Sculpture & Other Mediums) in the Man From Snowy River Art Show (2019); and a Highly Commended in the Fresh and Unframed Art Show (2018). Felicite’s work has also featured in a group exhibition, Reflections of Home, at Gigs Gallery (2019), and in 2021 she collaborated with designer Karla Cola to create her Let it Grow fabric design.
