Kindred Spirits, a new body of ceramic sculptures by north east Victorian artist Linda Lees, will be displayed in the Gallery Shop throughout August. Created in recognition of 45 years of marriage, this collection of work is a tribute to enduring partnerships, conveying universal attributes such as love, support, and encouragement. The sculptures, centred around the concept of pairs, have a limited colour palette of black and red, and are made up of dual components; some are connected, while others interact.

Linda, based at Londrigan near Wangaratta, often finds inspiration for her work in the region’s rural landscapes and country living. Her art explores the subtle interaction between people and their environment, with human presence implied but not visually represented. Kindred Spirits reflects a more introspective theme.

The artist explains, “The inspiration for these artworks may not be immediately apparent, but my use of geometric forms with crisp edges and a limited colour palette creates a cohesive collection. Creating brings me great joy and a sense of achievement. I find it immensely satisfying to develop an idea, bring it to fruition, and have an audience connect with it.”

Linda has explored various artistic mediums, including stone and wood carving, photography, painting, and printmaking. However, she has predominantly focused on photography and sculptural ceramics. Linda fulfilled her longtime desire to attain a degree by earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Curtin University in 2021, followed by Honours at Deakin University.
