Friday 7 February, 10—10.45AM

In this Little Artists session, participants will be introduced to abstract painting and construction using shapes and colour.

Drawing inspiration from Ron Robertson-Swann’s exhibition Illusion and Gravity, Little Artists will learn composition, painting and colour using a fun, tape resist technique. There are no wrong patterns and artists can take their time to approach this activity with detail and care.

Each artist will create their painting on a cardboard surface, using tape and other objects and materials. Artists will also have the opportunity to make some shape sculptures in response to Ron’ work.

Materials: Cardboard, paint brush, cardboard, paint, tape, cups, pre-cut shapes

Definitions and Learnings: This activity encourages the development of fine motor skills through painting and place making. Children will learn about patterns, shape, line, and design, and reflect on images/shapes they know in order to create new ones.

Ages: For pre-school aged children and their parents/carers

Cost: FREE

Registration essential: Please call 03 5760 2619 or email gallery@benalla.vic.gov.au

Where: Benalla Art Gallery, Patricia [Pat] Gardner Studio

Benalla Art Gallery’s Little Artists program is developed specifically for pre-school children. We use games, story-telling and creative activities to encourage young children, and their parents and carers, to have fun while learning about art.

Sessions are free and are scheduled for the first week of each month from February to December.
